early morning scare

A little before 6:30 this morning, Zak woke us up with a scream. Tara flew out of bed and picked him up. He was gasping and gagging so she began to pat him on the back. He was breathing, but it was labored and when she stopped patting his back, he would yell and gasp for air.

We called our pediatrician and explained the situation to him. He said we should take Zak to the ER. We called Tara’s parents to come over to sit with Nate and about 15 minutes later we were on our way. When we got in the car, we prayed for our little boy. There is nothing scarier than not being able to help your child. As we drove to the hospital, Zak began breath normally again, began to rest, then went to sleep.

Zak had coughed up some nasty mucus-looking substance, and that was probably the culprit in this situation. But, I also believe that God answers prayer and that he is to thank for this situation “resolving itself”.

We called the pediatrician back and he said we would be fine not going to the ER, but if the problem returned to go immediately.  Not exactly the relaxing Saturday morning for which we were all hoping, but I am thankful to God that my baby boy is ok.

I didn’t hear about this until now. I’m so thankful that God was protecting your precious little boy.
