Value: Blog

I believe that there is great value in writing a blog. As a pastor, it provides me a platform to talk to whomever will listen about my priorities and my life. It gives me a platform to test ideas and see what people think about them. A blog helps me to clarify my thoughts (hence the title of the blog). It helps me to think of things that are worth communicating to people. It helps me refine my communication abilities.

A couple months ago I became even more convinced of the value of blogging when I read this article.  The author points out six reasons why pastors should blog.

  1. To Write
  2. To Teach
  3. To Recommend
  4. To Interact
  5. To Develop an eye for what is meaningful
  6. To be Known

Here is another place with 10 reasons. A blog provides an opportunity to know a person in a different way.  When you read someone’s writings, you are following their thoughts. So in a church context where one-on-one interaction can be limited, it allows people to know their pastor in a more full way. If you know your pastor better, you will receive his teaching better. And, as long as he or she speaks truth, that is a good thing.
