Taco Night Results

Several of people worked hard today to make Taco Night a great event. Unfortunately, we did not meet the goal of $5000, but we did raise $2829.50 for the school.  I know Principal Taylor was thrilled about the event (I think he was there almost the entire 4 hours). In addition to the money, I think that it was a good event for the community.  Any time you can pull together religious organizations, businesses, schools, and citizens in a positive event, the community benefits.  We didn’t think to count how many people came tonight, but there must have been more than 500 people come through in the four hours we were there.  This event defies all the bad press that so often comes when churches and schools are mentioned together. I think a primary reason is because we are not asking from the school, but making an effort in helping it.  Honestly, this event cost our church a chunk of change, but we truly believe that God wants us to act this way in our community.  We didn’t take any reimbursement from the sales. As Daryl and I discussed this as recently as yesterday, all I could think about was the parable of the Talents. Sure, we could have just given money to the school and been done with it. But in this event, more money was raised than we would have given, we connected with lots of people, and we participated in a great community event.

I think it was a huge success regardless of the money total… The total message that was communicated by the church loving people and meeting them where they are will not so easily be forgotten and that my friend is the same affect Jesus left with people. Go God!

I feel so unspiritual. I was just excited about the great tacos at a great price!
