I am at the Southern Baptist Convention in Louisville, KY for a couple days this week.  I am on a committee so I had to be here a day early.  During the pre-conference session tonight a guy named David Platt delivered the sermon. I thought it was audacious, but he basically said, with all the people suffering in the world, why are we so focused on ourselves?  He said that we want a Jesus that is comfortable and calls us to be comfortable, but that means we are really making Jesus in our own image. So, when we worship on Sundays we really worship ourselves, not Jesus.  Jesus spent time among those who were downcast, excluded from society, poor, destitute, and shamed.  Thus, we are called to seek those people out as well if we are to live like Jesus.
