Julie and Julia

Tonight, Tara and I went to see “Julie and Julia” after a delightful meal at Red Lobster utilizing gift cards we had received for both places. Red Lobster didn’t have any utensils for opening crabs though, which I thought was a little ridiculous. Anyhow, we thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

Tara and I enjoy both eating and cooking which is mostly why I think we appreciated the movie.  It’s a story about a woman from NY who decides to cook through Julia Childs’ cookbook in one year. She is a writer working as a government employee instead of a writer. Being quite frustrated in her position, she decides upon this task of blogging about her cooking experiences.

The parts I appreciated the most revolved around the story of the life of Julia Childs and her husband.  It was her story of discovering french cooking, writing and publishing a cookbook and making the most of life.

It is definitely a “chick flick”, but the two male characters who where the husbands interact in a typical “husband-like” fashion which I found amusing.  There is a good bit of humor in the movie and that combined with the food was enough for me to appreciate the film. Tara gave me a choice to see Funny People, but I’m glad I picked this one.

So fellas, I know you are all trying to butter up your wife before football season starts, so you better take her to see this one, just don’t let her order crab legs at Red Lobster.
