HPV Vaccination

I heard on the news tonight that there have been 32 deaths and over 1200 side effects associated with the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccination.

This is an example of flaws with the FDA and our health care system in general. If you watch TV you have seen commercials for this garbage, touting that girls should be “one less”.  What the commercials neglect to say is that HPV is an STD and if those girls remain sexually pure they don’t need a vaccination.

Furthermore, the vaccination doesn’t even prevent all types of cervical cancer and persons who are sexually promiscuous are likely to get one or more of an innumerable number of STDs. So, get the HPV vaccination, and if you sleep around you may still get HIV, herpes, or some other disease that drug companies make MILLIONS treating rather than curing.

Or, wait until you’re married to have sex. If that’s too difficult, get married younger.  Around %50 of marriages fail anyway, so getting married young may actually increase your likelihood of making it work, I don’t know of any research about that.

Some of my blogs are certainly more random than others, but after hearing this newscast tonight, I had to write something.

I stumbled across an article yesterday that is responsive to this post (which I just found today):

    http://www.physorg.com/news175857987.html

The article reports on a survey of 500 British girls who received the vaccine. While 14% said it might cause them to take more sexual risks, 79% said it highlighted for them the risks of sexual activity. Presumably they are aware of HIV, Herpes, and other incurable STDs and the fact that there are not currently vaccines available for those diseases. If getting the vaccine makes the risks more real to them (as passively sitting in a sex ed class may not), perhaps the vaccine may have an overall effect of decreasing early sexual activity, promiscuity, and unprotected sex.

It will be interesting to do some studies in 5 years to compare the sexual activity of girls who got the vaccine with a similar sample of those who did not.
