what are you reading?

I am constantly looking for the best books to read. I have HUGE goals for myself about the amount I read, and although I often don’t obtain those goals, for me, they are crucial in taking in thoughts that shape my life.

I believe that when you read, you are thinking along with a person. No matter the genre of your material, reading shapes the way you think about life.  For me, that means it is important to allow the proper material to influence me.  Primarily, this means that I strive to read my Bible.  This helps me to think along with God about life. But, I also read lots of other things. Here are most of the books I am currently reading:

  • Multi-Site Churches by Scott McConnell
  • A preface to Paradise Lost by C.S. Lewis
  • Developing the Leader within You by John Maxwell
  • Building your Leadership Resume by Johnny Hunt
  • Essential Church by Thom Rainer
  • Lost and Found by Ed Stetzer
  • Resurrection by Leo Tolstoy
  • Paradise Lost by John Milton

I read broadly, but for specific reasons.  My goal is to have all of these (and a couple I have intentionally left out) finished by the end of the year.  This is part of my “Fourth Quarter Drill”, which I will be talking about in the coming days.

So, What are you reading and why?

As our conversations have flowed, many i believe have centered on what we are both reading.so needless to say, i’m in total agreement with the desire and necessity to read.however i don’t seem to be the reader i once was.time…it seems.as i type this there are no fewer than 8 books and 4 magazines on my coffe table.that is pretty typical.i also read many at a time.i seem to get into subject patterns.right now i’m reading up on photography.trying to hone some skill.so my list would include..understanding exposure, seeing creatively, graphic design and relgion, digital stock photos, creative christian media, axiom(which i’m really liking by the way),collide, too many magazines to list, investors business daily, and certainly the bible and my utmost for his highest.so many to read ,so little time.the trick i hope to tag, retention and application.we’ll see…happy reading
