Choosing to Cheat

This past sunday, I delivered a sermon I entitled “Choosing to Cheat”.  Conceptually, I took some ideas, but mostly the title, from Andy Stanley’s book with the same name.  The idea is, we all choose to cheat with our time. We make the decision to devote our time and attention to some things and because of that, we neglect other things. Stanley’s book specifically deals with the idea of balancing work and family. I also have been listening to a series called “The Path” by Matt Chandler and as I have been applying some of that to my life, it informed this sermon. Another book that challenged me with some of these same ideas is John Eldredge’s book Journey of Desire. I seek to show the hearer how the Gospel is lived out in every aspect of life. The Good News that Jesus redeems sinful men and women and makes them into a new people is a wonderful truth that is life-changing. In this sermon, I show how the Gospel changes the way we approach our time with our money, family, work, hobbies, and spirituality.

We need help figuring out how to find the best balance to our lives. I believe that following Jesus wholeheartedly is the best way to find this balance.
