Sunday Recap for August 22, 2010

We started a new series this week called In Tents.  Camping can be a great experience if you are with people you enjoy being around and you know what you are doing. But, it’s no fun to camp alone. It’s difficult to set up a tent by yourself. It’s no fun to sing campfire songs by yourself. It’s difficult to administer first aid to yourself if you get hurt. It can be intense but it can also be adventurous.  Likewise, God did not design us to live life alone. He calls us to follow Jesus with our lives, and in doing this, he calls us to join ourselves to a church. A church is simply a community of people who collectively seek Jesus together.  It is vital to the health of the church that we invest ourselves in serving the church. It is crucial to our own spiritual lives that we find the role God wants us to play in that service. 1 Corinthians 12 tells us that no one part is any less important than another and every member of the Body of Christ is essential to the body. For a Christian to say he or she doesn’t have anything to contribute is to say that God goofed up when he designed and equipped you to serve his Body, the church.  We all have a part to play and we must seek out that part, not wait for it to come to us.
