The first crabs of 2011

I took my kids crabbing for the first time last year. My friend Bob recommended it rather than fishing. He said, “It’s like fishing except you actually catch stuff.”  Apparently, he understood how I fish. So, I took the boys and they LOVED it. For a couple of bucks to buy some chicken necks or something and some string, you can have hours of fun. We went the other day for the first time this summer. We caught a ton of them but only kept five.  It was a beautiful day on the Assawoman Bay too. I steamed the crabs for the boys to eat. Since my crab picking abilities are out of shape, it took me about 5 minutes per crab. That just means I need more practice. The funny thing to me was the boys didn’t even eat the meat after I picked it for them. So, I have enough meat for…well, nothing. Maybe I’ll throw it in an omlette? mmmm….
